The vast Great Barrier Reef catchment area (GBRCA) contains diverse and nationally significant freshwater wetlands, many of which connect to the GBR World Heritage area. Queensland’s GBRCA Wetland Condition Monitoring Program is one of the most comprehensive, ongoing wetland monitoring programs in Australia, tracking progress toward the government objective of improved GBRCA wetland condition since 2016. Our randomly selected, spatially balanced sample of ~240 wetlands spans public and private lands subject to uses from urban development, mining, forestry, grazing and cropping to conservation. Wetland state and pressures on wetlands are reported on in the form of index (and subindex) scores. But what, you may ask, are the underlying variables we record? This poster provides a summary of the indicators we use, the data types we collect, and where to find more information like the program’s sampling design, monitoring methods and reports, plus how to contact us. We are interested in collaborating with other researchers to get best use out of these long-term broad-scale monitoring datasets, to gain better understanding of the links between land management practices and wetland condition.
