Gemma Walker
Gemma graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Masters in Biosciences, during which time she completed a research project in Freshwater Ecology, examining the effect of natural plant compounds from eucalyptus species on the mating behaviours and reproductive success of a native freshwater fish species. Since joining Ecology Australia’s Aquatic Ecology team at the beginning of 2023, Gemma has gained experience conducting fish surveys on various projects via both netting and backpack electrofishing techniques, including The Living Murray Conditioning Monitoring project. Additionally, she has completed several projects involving targeted aquatic surveys for threatened fish and crayfish species including dwarf galaxias, Yarra pygmy perch, and various burrowing crayfish species. Gemma has also worked on platypus surveys, fishway monitoring, and eDNA sampling, further developing her field survey skills.
