Karoline Victor Serpa
Karoline holds a Master’s degree in Ecosystem Ecology from the Graduate Program in Ecosystem Ecology at Universidade Vila Velha, where she also completed her Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences. She is currently a dual PhD candidate in Plant Biotechnology, focusing on biotechnology applied to agriculture and environmental studies, and in Agriculture, Environment, and Related Studies at the University of Southern Queensland. Her research at UniSQ investigates the impacts of agricultural activities on stream ecosystems, particularly how herbicides affect detritivore organisms and organic matter decomposition. Karoline integrates biochemical and physicochemical analyses to understand nutrient cycling and ecosystem responses to contaminants.
In addition to her studies, she is an Associate Researcher at the Aquatic Insect Ecology Laboratory (LEIA), under the guidance of Professor Dr. Marcelo da Silva Moretti. She is also a founding member and active partner of TWRA Brazil (Tropical Water Research Alliance).
